Cultural Immersion Trip 

As a member of Rural Health Scholars(RHS), I am given the opportunity to go on trips with faculty and other students to a few different places during different times of the year. I have not yet been on a trip, so this semester I decided to go on the trip that they are offering to Salt Lake City over spring break. This is a new trip for RHS, so that is why I was inclined to choose this one. I had decided to be a trip leader, so before we went on the trip I had many jobs that needed to be done in order for the trip to be successful. Along with two other trip leaders, I contacted different organizations to see if we could volunteer with them, take tours of their facilities, etc.

While on the trip, we helped many people who were in need by gathering and packaging personal hygiene kits, food for lunches for children, and participating in health screenings. We also got the opportunity to take a tour of Shriner's Hospital and a couple different graduate schools and nursing schools. Since the majority of the students enrolled in RHS are pre-med, pre-nurisng, pre-dental, or anything health/medical related, this was an amazing opportunity for all of us.
