Reflection
To reflect on my trip to Salt Lake City, I would say that I did well planning and executing the trip with little to no hiccups. I am extremely grateful and glad that I was able to be a trip leader, rather than just go on the trip without partaking in any planning. I gained skills in leadership that I would not have, had I not beed a leader for the trip. I learned how to speak up for, not only myself, but for others as well. Throughout the planning process, I had to communicate with many people whom I had not met before and I was extremely uncomfortable with this in the beginning. After completing the trip, I realized that I became a lot more open.
Volunteering within the community and helping those in need is something I am grateful I did and I think it is something everyone should do at some point in their life. While volunteering at the Catholic Community Services, serving meals to the homeless, there were a couple families there doing the same thing along side us. The family that I worked alongside of was telling me how they take every Thursday night and volunteer there as a family. I thought that was one of the best things I learned while on this trip. Everyone should take a day a week, or even a day once a month and volunteer their time somewhere for a good cause. I think it is especially beneficial to do it as a family because it teaches children to not be selfish and that giving to others in need is a good thing. I also think that in doing this, children will learn not to judge other people because of the circumstances they are in.
Overall, I think that volunteering for anything is a great idea and that everyone should do it. We all have the time, we just make excuses as to why we don't or "can't" do it.
